How to Heal Your Money Story as a Christian Entrepreneur (And Finally Break the Debt Cycle)

Have you ever prayed about your finances… and then went right back to the same patterns?
You're not alone — and it's not a willpower problem.
If you've been trying to budget better, pay off debt, or finally save — but nothing seems to stick — there's a good chance you don't have a money management problem.
You have a money story problem. And learning how to heal your money story as a Christian entrepreneur might be the one thing that changes everything.
That's exactly what happened for Linda, a fascia stretch therapist and equestrian wellness expert, when she joined my 90-Day Fun Money Habits Mentoring Program.

What Is a Money Story — And Why Does It Keep You Stuck?
Your money story is the set of beliefs, memories, and emotional patterns around money that were formed in childhood and reinforced over time.
It's the voice that says "we can't afford that", the habit of avoiding your bank statement, or the late-night impulse buy to cope with a hard day.
Most of us were never taught to examine these patterns. We were just told to budget better, spend less, and save more.
But that advice skips the most important layer: why we handle money the way we do.
Linda put it beautifully when she said:
"What I needed was to get in touch with my money story — to understand why I handle money the way I do. It was a deeper level. I didn't know I needed that until we started working together."
She came to me thinking she needed help managing day-to-day finances. What God revealed went so much deeper.
The Faith-Money Disconnect Most Christian Entrepreneurs Don't See
One of the biggest patterns I see in Christian female entrepreneurs is what I call the faith-money disconnect — keeping God in one box and money in another.
Linda described it perfectly:
"I separated money from God. Over here I have to make money, and over here I go to church and do the Christian things — and I never thought about applying Biblical truth to my finances."
She knew the scriptures. She was praying for God's help with her finances. But on the other side, there was avoidance, anxiety, and that same old cycle of overspending.
This is so common. We pray, "Lord, help me with my money," but then shut down when it's time to actually look at the numbers. The anxiety feels too big. So we stay stuck.
Healing your money story with me means bringing those two worlds back together — letting Biblical truth become the foundation for how you think, feel, and act around money.
How to Heal Your Money Story: The 2 Shifts That Changed Everything for Linda
1. Understanding Where Your Money Patterns Come From
The first breakthrough for Linda was tracing her money habits back to their roots.
Growing up hearing "we can't afford that" created a scarcity mindset she carried silently into adulthood — and into her business.
Once she could see that on paper, something shifted:
"What I'm doing with money is not entirely my fault. It's these internal thoughts and subconscious things that created some of these habits. It was so eye-opening."
This is the moment the shame starts to lift. You're not bad with money. You have inherited patterns — and patterns can change.
2. Looking at Your Numbers Without Fear
The second shift was learning to face the numbers. Linda used to avoid her bank statements entirely.
The anxiety of "where did all my money go?" felt easier to ignore than to confront.
Inside the program, we introduced a simple tracking method — a visual, low-pressure way to see the money flow. And slowly, the numbers stopped feeling like a judgment.
"Looking at my numbers really isn't so scary. I can look at them, and they're not going to bite me. Now I can see where it went."
When you remove the emotional charge from money data, it becomes just that — data. And data gives you power to choose differently.
The Impulse Buying Breakthrough
One of Linda's biggest transformations was around emotional spending. Like many of us, she used retail therapy as a coping mechanism — late-night scrolling, Amazon purchases that felt good for a moment but led to clutter and buyer's remorse.
After doing the inner work, something rewired:
"Now I have the awareness to stop and say, 'Do I really need that?' I deleted apps on my phone so I wasn't tempted. If I need something from Amazon, I have to go to my laptop, log in, and search — and I have things in my cart I haven't hit send on yet."
That pause between the impulse and the action? That's the renewal of the mind at work. That's Romans 12:2 in real life.
Faith, Business Finances, and Paying Taxes — Yes, Really
This transformation didn't stay in Linda's personal finances. It shifted how she ran her business too — from being more intentional about which tools and platforms she actually needed, to reframing the way she thought about business expenses and even taxes.
When paying taxes feels like loss, we unconsciously spend down our profit to avoid it. But when you see it as God's faithfulness — that He provided more than enough — your entire relationship with business revenue changes.
This is what it looks like to partner with God in your finances, not just pray at them.
This Is Not a Budgeting Program
I want to be really clear about something, because it matters: This 90 day mentoring program is not about how to budget better.
It's about healing your relationship with money so you can get out of the cycle — the debt cycle, the scarcity cycle, the earn-and-spend-and-panic cycle — that your money story has been keeping you in.
Whether it's overspending as a coping mechanism, fear of earning more because you believe as a Christian that having less is more holy, or anxiety around selling your services… we go to the root.
We renew the mind with Biblical truth.
We regulate the emotional response.
We create new patterns — ones that glorify God and make you the faithful steward He's called you to be.
As Linda said:
"It's not just spending more money on another thing. This is transformative. Absolutely 100% transformative."
