Why you keep Avoiding your Finances (Even when you're making good money)

You finally start making consistent money in your business.

The clients are coming in.Sales are happening. You’re seeing provision you once prayed for.

But instead of feeling peace…you feel pressure.

You avoid checking your bank account.

Delay looking at your numbers.

Feel anxious after spending.Or carry this constant tension that something bad is about to happen financially.

And honestly?

This is more common than many Christian women entrepreneurs realize.

Recently, I unpacked this in a YouTube episode after noticing how many women quietly struggle with financial avoidance — even when they are financially responsible.

Watch the full episode below:

Why Financial Avoidance Is Not Always About Discipline

Most people assume avoiding your finances comes from:

  • poor budgeting,

  • lack of discipline,

  • overspending,

  • or irresponsibility.

But many women who struggle with money anxiety are actually highly capable.

They run businesses.

Serve clients faithfully.

Care deeply about stewardship.

So why does money still feel emotionally heavy?

Because sometimes the real issue is not practical.

It’s what money has come to mean emotionally and spiritually.

When Money Starts Feeling Spiritually Unsafe

I recently shared the story of a woman who told me:

“I know where my money goes… but I still feel like I cannot get ahead.”

She was organized.

Responsible.

Structured.

Yet every time she looked at her finances, something in her shut down emotionally.

And eventually, we realized something important:

She wasn’t avoiding her finances because she lacked control.

She was avoiding them because of what money had come to represent.

Somewhere along the way, money became spiritually complicated.

She deeply loved God.

Wanted to honor Him.

Wanted to steward well.

But underneath it all was a quiet fear:

“What if money pulls me away from God?”

And that internal conflict shaped her behavior more than any financial strategy ever could.

The Hidden Beliefs Many Christian Women Carry About Money

Many believers unknowingly carry beliefs like:

  • wanting more money is selfish,

  • wealthy people are greedy,

  • having less is more spiritual,

  • or good Christians should not desire financial growth.

So even when provision comes…guilt follows it.

One part of them prays for increase.

Another part feels unsafe receiving it.

That creates emotional tension around money.

And often, avoidance becomes protection.

Not because they are lazy. But because money no longer feels emotionally safe.

Why Provision Can Still Feel Heavy

Many Christian entrepreneurs say:

“I believe God will provide.”

But emotionally, provision still feels exhausting.

Why?

Because provision starts feeling like something they must manage perfectly.

And if they fail…they fear disappointment, shame, or losing control.

So instead of stewarding with peace, they move between:

  • anxious striving,

  • financial avoidance,

  • guilt,

  • and pressure.

But Scripture does not present stewardship that way.

God does not provide and then leave you alone to carry the burden of it all.

He calls you to steward with Him.

Not in fear.Not in shame.

Not in pressure. And not to prove your worth.

A Better Question to Ask Yourself

Maybe the question is not:

“Why do I keep avoiding my finances?”

Maybe the deeper question is:

“What do I believe money says about me… and my relationship with God?”

Because until those beliefs are brought into the light, the same patterns often keep repeating.
