Avoidance rarely shows up as obvious fear.

It usually shows up as:

• delaying bookkeeping

• avoiding checking income

• hesitating to raise prices

• overthinking financial decisions

• postponing sales or invoicing tasks

Underneath this pattern are often hidden beliefs like:

• “I’m not good with money.”

• “If I look at the numbers, I’ll feel overwhelmed.”

• “I might discover something I can’t fix.”

• “I shouldn’t want more income as a Christian.”

• “If I grow, I might get it wrong.”

Over time, your mind can begin to associate money tasks in your business with discomfort or stress.

So it chooses avoidance because it feels safer in the moment.

But what feels safe short-term often creates more stress long-term.

Your Brain Is Filtering Reality Through Past Beliefs and trauma

God designed your brain to look for patterns and evidence that match what you already believe.

This filtering system is often described in neuroscience as the Reticular Activating System (RAS), which helps your brain prioritise information based on what you repeatedly focus on and believe.

Think of it like a lens.

If your internal belief is:

“Money is stressful,”

your brain will highlight every stressful money experience and downplay moments of provision, growth, or wisdom.

If your belief is:

“I’m not capable with finances,”

Your brain will focus on mistakes and ignore moments where you have actually stewarded money well.

This is why avoidance feels so automatic.

Your brain is not just reacting to your current situation.

It is reacting through a learned lens of past beliefs.

Why Knowing What to Do Is Not Enough

Many Christian entrepreneurs already what they “should” do:

• Look at your numbers

• Set your prices

• Review your income

• Make confident financial decisions

But knowing is not the issue.

The issue is that behaviour follows belief.

If your brain associates money tasks with stress, shame, or fear, it will resist them even if you logically know they are necessary.

This is where many women feel stuck: not in knowledge, but in internal tension.

This Is Where Biblical Money Mindset Comes In

A Biblical Money Mindset is not about becoming obsessed with money.

It is about letting God’s truth reshape how you think, feel, and respond to money in your business.

Romans 12:2 says:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” (ESV)

This renewal is not instant.

It is a process of replacing old beliefs with God’s truth and practicing new responses over time.

As you do this consistently, your brain begins forming new patterns and heal your relationship with money.

What once felt overwhelming becomes manageable.

What once felt fearful becomes peaceful.

How Your Brain Actually Changes (Neuroplasticity)

Your brain has something called neuroplasticity, its ability to change and form new pathways based on repeated thoughts and actions.

Every time you:

• Choose to face a money task instead of avoiding it

• Replace fear with biblical truth

• Take a small step of obedience in your business

You are literally strengthening a new pathway in your brain.

At the same time, old avoidance patterns begin to weaken.

This is why transformation is not just spiritual, it is also practical and neurological.

God designed your mind to be renewed through truth and obedience.
